Indian Coast Guard Commissions 'ICGS Achal', 5th Adamya-Class Patrol Vessel

The Indian Coast Guard has formally commissioned 'ICGS Achal', the fifth ship in a series of eight Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV).
Constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited at a cost of Rs 473 crore, the vessel features over 50% indigenous content, supporting the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
The ship will be stationed at Vadinar, Gujarat, operating under the Coast Guard Region (North-West) to bolster coastal security and maritime surveillance.
The Adamya-class series includes vessels like ICGS Adamya, Akshar, Amulya, and Akshay, with ICGS Atal, Ajit, and Aparajit still under production.
Strategic Perspective: FPVs like ICGS Achal are critical for shallow-water operations, anti-smuggling, and Search and Rescue (SAR) missions in sensitive maritime borders.
