Mahesh Dixit Appointed as the New Director of India's Intelligence Bureau

Senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit (1993-batch, Andhra Pradesh cadre) has been designated as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
He takes over the prestigious intelligence chief post from the outgoing Director, Tapan Kumar Deka, starting his official tenure on 30 June 2026.
Dixit has been appointed for a fixed tenure of two years, bringing in extensive experience from previous counter-terrorism and state-level policing assignments.
Known widely in administrative circles for steering public outreach campaigns in Jammu & Kashmir post-Article 370 revocation, he is locally referred to as 'Doctor Sahib'.
His immediate priorities include upgrading India's domestic intelligence framework, checking cyber-espionage, and tackling evolving internal security challenges.
