Digital India Initiative Celebrates 11 Years of Empowering the Nation's Tech Ecosystem

The Government's flagship Digital India program reached an important milestone of 11 years on July 1, 2026, after its inception on the same date in 2015.
Launched under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the scheme aims to convert India into a digitally empowered society and a knowledge-based economy.
The program is run and administered by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Its foundational structure relies on three core areas: providing reliable digital infrastructure, delivering on-demand online government services, and expanding digital literacy.
Significance: Digital India has laid the foundation for the revolutionary growth of UPI, Aadhaar-enabled services, and direct benefit transfers.
