DGCA Successfully Conducts India's First Satellite-Based Landing Trial on Jet Aircraft Using GAGAN

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) completed India's inaugural satellite-guided landing system (SLS) trial utilizing the GAGAN system on a commercial jet.
This trial was successfully executed on an IndiGo Airbus A320 aircraft at the Udaipur Airport in Rajasthan.
GAGAN (GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation) is an indigenous satellite-based augmentation system jointly engineered by ISRO and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
While GAGAN landing procedures were previously demonstrated only on smaller turboprop planes, this marks the first successful jet aircraft application.
Significance: The transition to SLS allows precise and safe landings during bad weather and low-visibility conditions without relying on expensive ground-based navigation aids.
