Odisha Cabinet Sanctions Rs 2,295 Crore Deep Sea Fishing Mission to Elevate Blue Economy

The Odisha state cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved the 'Deep Sea Fishing Mission' with a budget allocation of Rs 2,295.45 crore.
The mission is scheduled for implementation over a ten-year horizon from 2026 to 2036.
The initiative will be spearheaded by the state's Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department.
By deploying advanced deep-sea fishing vessels and training local fishers, the project aims to transform Odisha into a major hub for marine exports.
Significance: This targeted investment will unlock offshore maritime potential, generating thousands of livelihoods while boosting the state's GDP through marine trade.
