RBI Announces Key Enhancements to Integrated Ombudsman Scheme (RB-IOS) 2026
Under the revised framework, the maximum cap on the dispute amount that a complainant can file before the Ombudsman has been completely removed.
The Ombudsman can award a maximum compensation of up to Rs 30 lakh for direct financial loss resulting from deficient services.
An additional compensation of up to Rs 3 lakh can be granted to address harassment, mental agony, loss of time, and out-of-pocket expenses.
The scheme extends its coverage to all commercial banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), credit information companies, and non-bank prepaid payment instrument (PPI) issuers.
