PARIVARTAN Scheme Guidelines Approved to Phase Out Old Commercial Vehicles in NCR

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved the operational guidelines for the PARIVARTAN scheme, aiming to substitute aging and highly polluting commercial buses and trucks in the National Capital Region with cleaner alternatives.
Eligible commercial vehicles will be replaced with either BS-VI compliant models or advanced Electric Vehicles to curb soaring vehicular emissions.
The initiative has been backed by a total financial layout of 9,585 crore rupees, out of which the Central Government will extend budgetary support worth 5,041 crore rupees.
Various financial incentives have been rolled out under this framework, including a 10-year motor vehicle tax concession, registration fee waivers, a 5 percent interest subvention on loans, and a minimum 8 percent OEM discount.
Exam Perspective: This scheme underscores India's commitment to climate action by transitioning urban transit ecosystems to reduce vehicular emissions in critical pollution zones like the NCR.
