India Marks Global Tiger Day 2026 with Nearly 70% Share of World's Wild Tiger Population
Union Minister Bhupender Yadav addressed the event in New Delhi, highlighting that India hosts 3,682 wild tigers across 58 tiger reserves, representing almost 70% of the global wild tiger population.
Tiger numbers have grown by nearly 65% since 2014 when the population stood at 2,226.
Project Tiger, initiated in 1973 with 9 reserves, is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme managed by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
