Constructed as a greenfield infrastructure project near Visakhapatnam, it holds an initial passenger handling capacity of 6 million annually.
The project was executed by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a cost of around Rs 5,640 crore.
The airport honors Alluri Sitarama Raju, a celebrated revolutionary freedom fighter and tribal leader from Andhra Pradesh.
