India Manufacturing PMI Moderates to 53.5 in July 2026

According to the S&P Global HSBC India Manufacturing PMI survey, India's manufacturing PMI fell to 53.5 in July 2026 from 54.2 in June 2026.
Despite reaching its lowest reading since August 2021, the index remained above the critical 50.0 threshold, marking ongoing expansion in the manufacturing ecosystem.
Job creation across the manufacturing sector grew for the 29th consecutive month, even as raw material cost pressures dropped to a 5-month low.
Strong demand from export markets including Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, UAE, and South Africa bolstered factory activity.
Exam Perspective: Understanding macroeconomic indicators like PMI (Purchasing Managers' Index) is essential for economic awareness questions in bank exams.

Key Facts / Static GK

A Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) reading above 50 represents expansion, below 50 signals contraction, and exactly 50 denotes no change.
