Varsha Ashok Aglawe Appointed First Woman Director General of Geological Survey of India
Varsha Ashok Aglawe, previously serving as ADG and Head of Department (Eastern Region), has taken charge as the 54th Director General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI).
She creates history as the very first woman to lead the premier geoscientific organization in its 176-year existence.
Aglawe takes over the helm from Asit Saha, who completed his tenure as DG at the end of July 2026.
Prior to her elevated roles at GSI, she served with distinction at the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM).
