SBI Secures USD 500 Million Social Loan for Women’s Empowerment

The State Bank of India (SBI) has raised a USD 500 million social term loan specifically designed to support women-led economic activities.
The funds are earmarked for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and livelihood initiatives aimed at increasing women's participation (SDG-5).
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) acted as the sole loan coordinator, mandated lead arranger, and underwriter for this facility.
Significance: This is one of the largest social loans aimed at gender equality in the Indian banking sector, facilitating easier credit flow to women entrepreneurs.
