India Targets 143 GW Inter-Regional Power Transmission Capacity by 2027
The Indian government has announced plans to increase inter-regional power transmission capacity (IRTC) to 143 GW by 2027, up from the current 120 GW.
Long-term projections aim for a capacity of 168 GW by 2032 to support a peak electricity demand expected to touch 388 GW.
This infrastructure upgrade falls under the National Electricity Plan – Volume II (Transmission) to ensure smooth energy flow across the National Power Grid.
The expansion includes increasing the transmission network to 6.48 lakh circuit kilometres and transformation capacity to 2,345 GVA.
