FSSAI Introduces Perpetual License Validity to Enhance Ease of Doing Business
The Ministry of Health has approved perpetual validity for FSSAI registrations and licenses, eliminating the need for periodic renewals for food businesses.
New turnover thresholds for licensing, effective April 1, 2026, have been set: Basic Registration (up to ₹1.5 crore), State License (up to ₹50 crore), and Central License (above ₹50 crore).
Street food vendors registered under the Street Vendors Act, 2014, will now be automatically considered as registered with FSSAI, ending dual registration requirements.
Perspective: This policy shift follows NITI Aayog's recommendations to reduce administrative burdens and allow regulators to focus on food safety enforcement rather than paperwork.
