Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani Appointed as India’s Next Chief of Defence Staff

Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani (Retd) has been named as India's new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding General Anil Chauhan.
In addition to the CDS role, he will also take charge as the Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs.
The transition follows the completion of General Anil Chauhan's tenure on May 30, 2026.
Lt Gen Subramani previously served as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff and was recently the Military Adviser to the National Security Council Secretariat.
Perspective: As the highest-ranking officer in the Indian Armed Forces, the new CDS will lead the ongoing transition toward theater commands and joint military integration.
