NITI Aayog Report Reveals Major Shift in India's School Education Landscape
Government school enrollment declined from 71% in 2005 to 49.24% in the 2024-25 academic session.
The report identifies that India operates the world's largest school system with 14.71 lakh schools and over 24.69 crore students.
While Karnataka showed the highest decade-long improvement in Higher Secondary Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER), Tamil Nadu leads with the highest GER at 83.4%.
Significance: The study emphasizes a 'quality over quantity' roadmap, pointing out that many students still drop out before reaching Class 11 and 12.
