Union Cabinet Clears ₹37,500 Crore Scheme to Boost Coal Gasification

The Union Cabinet has approved a financial incentive scheme worth ₹37,500 crore to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects.
The scheme aims to produce Syngas (synthetic gas) which is a critical raw material for manufacturing fertilizers, chemicals, and clean fuels like Methanol.
Financial incentives will cover up to 20% of the plant and machinery costs, distributed in four milestone-based installments.
The program excludes Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) and Urea categories from its specific incentive structure but includes single project caps up to ₹5,000 crore.
Significance: This initiative supports the National Coal Gasification Mission to reduce India's reliance on imported Natural Gas and Urea.
