Henley Passport Index 2026: India Ranks 78th with Visa-Free Access to 56 Countries

India's passport rank declined to 78th in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, down from its 75th position in the previous assessment.
Despite the ranking dip, Indian citizens still enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 56 global destinations.
Singapore secured the top spot globally, offering its citizens access to 192 destinations, followed by Japan at 2nd and South Korea at 3rd.
The index, which ranks 199 passports, uses proprietary data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Perspective: While India's rank has fluctuated (best was 71st in 2006), the long-term trend shows improvement from its lowest rank of 90th in 2021.
