Bureau of Indian Standards Formalizes E30 Petrol Norms to Propel Higher Ethanol Blending

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially notified the new fuel standards for E22, E25, E27, and E30 petrol, laying down the regulatory pathway for up to 30% ethanol-blended motor fuel.
The new standard, designated as IS 19850:2026, details the specific parameters required for petrol engine vehicles to run safely on higher eco-friendly fuel blends.
E30 fuel specifies a composition of 30% clean ethanol mixed with 70% conventional fossil gasoline, significantly lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
While India's original target was to achieve 20% ethanol blending by 2030, rapid operational progress has advanced the target timeline to the 2025–26 fiscal year.
