Ministry of Statistics Revisions Index of Industrial Production (IIP) Base Year to 2022-23

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has officially updated the base year of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) from 2011-12 to 2022-23.
This marks the 10th revision of the IIP series, structured to reflect modern production patterns and industrial developments across India.
The total number of tracked items in the IIP has expanded to 463 under the new series, up from 407 in the older 2011-12 series.
The updated basket introduces water supply, sewerage, and waste management as a new group, and increases the weight/coverage of manufacturing items from 405 to 455.
Compiled monthly by the National Statistical Office (NSO), this updated index provides policymakers and investors with a more accurate assessment of India's macroeconomic industrial performance.
