Mission Senehjori Launched to Elevate Assam's Muga Silk to Global Luxury Status

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has introduced 'Mission Senehjori' to upgrade Assam's rare Muga Silk into an international luxury textile brand.
Backed by a financial outlay of ‹396 to ‹411 crore for a three-year period, the cluster-based initiative aims to modernize the entire Muga silk supply chain.
Assam commands a virtual monopoly in this sector, producing nearly 90% of the world's Muga silk, which is celebrated as India's first GI-tagged silk.
Regional economic development initiatives for specific geographical indicators (GI) are critical for exams focusing on Indian exports and agricultural products.
