India's Inaugural Flex-Fuel Passenger Car Launched by Maruti Suzuki
The vehicle is engineered to run on customized fuel mixtures of ethanol and petrol, ranging seamlessly from E20 (20% ethanol) to E100 (100% ethanol) without hardware modifications.
Alongside, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari introduced Hero MotoCorp’s prototype flex-fuel motorcycles, including the Splendor+ Flex Fuel and HF Deluxe Flex Fuel models.
To streamline adoption, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially standardized E85 (containing 85% ethanol and 15% petrol) fuel.
Significance: Promoting flex-fuel engines is essential for India’s strategy to cut down on foreign oil import bills, reduce carbon emissions, and utilize agrarian surplus by boosting the bio-ethanol economy.
