India's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) Accelerates to 5.1% in May 2026 Amid Base Year Revision
The growth trajectory was highly supported by boosted outputs in the manufacturing, electricity, and gas distribution sectors.
Crucially, the base year used to compute IIP values has been revised from 2011-12 to a more modern period of 2022-23 to accurately reflect structural industrial changes.
The index, representing real-time industrial health, is systematically compiled and released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
