India's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) Grows 5.1% in May 2026
This economic growth was driven by elevated performance in the manufacturing sector and the electricity & gas supply sectors.
Significantly, the base year for compiling the IIP has been revised and updated from 2011–12 to 2022–23.
The Index is officially tracked and released on a monthly basis by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
Socio-economic indicator revisions, especially base-year updates, represent foundational concepts heavily tested in UPSC and banking examinations.
