Government Announces First Major Passport Application Fee Revision Since 2012
Marking the first major upward fee adjustment in 14 years (since 2012), the new price charts will officially become effective starting 1 July 2026.
Under the updated pricing, a standard 36-page adult passport under the normal scheme will cost ₹2,500 (up from ₹1,500), and ₹5,000 under the Tatkal scheme (up from ₹3,500).
The 60-page adult booklet fees have been scaled up to ₹3,500 for normal processing and ₹6,000 for Tatkal. Minor passports (36 pages) will now be charged at ₹1,750 (Normal) and ₹4,250 (Tatkal).
Despite the fee escalations, the validity terms for Indian passports remain untouched, ensuring a standard 10-year period for adult applicants.
