Passed during the March 2026 state legislative budget session, the law regulates religious conversions and penalizes unlawful conversions executed through force, fraud, undue influence, misrepresentation, or lure of marriage.
Individuals intending to convert religions must submit a formal prior notice to the local District Magistrate at least two months prior to the conversion date.
Offenders face prison terms of up to 7 years for primary offenses, while repeat offenders may receive sentences extended up to 10 years.
