RBI Relaxes Holding Company Structure Rules for AU Small Finance Bank's Transition
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has relaxed the requirement for promoters of AU Small Finance Bank to immediately set up a Non-Operative Financial Holding Company (NOFHC).
This relaxation is part of AU SFB's transition towards becoming a universal bank; an NOFHC will only be required if the group starts new financial businesses.
An NOFHC is a holding company structure mandated by the RBI to separate banking activities from other financial services like insurance or mutual funds.
Exam Perspective: This move reduces the immediate regulatory burden on successful SFBs looking to scale up into full-service universal banks.
